Almost every year the same scenario happens in Tokyo: weather forecast announces snow for the next day, people start talking about the “rare event”, TV stations place cameras next to crowded places to take shots of people walking through dense snowfall, etc. Then the day comes, snow starts falling, and … nothing special happens. Most of the cars on the street are not equipped with winter tyres but I don’t see more car accidents. Even if there is some snow accumulating on the ground (like we had two years ago) pedestrians can deal with the “new material”. And as snowfall in Tokyo is not such a rare case (since I am living in Japan it happened at least once a year) I am wondering why newspapers and TV spend so much effort to report about this weather situation? Thus, next time in Tokyo when the white stuff comes from the sky “Let it snow and take care not to get wet feet!”.
