[...] Therme Ogawa runs a 竃風呂 or also called 蒸し風呂 (steam bath) which is a kind of traditional Japanese sauna. The 竃風呂 has its origin in the Edo period and with around 45 degrees is less hot than a Finnish sauna. However, a humidity of more than 70% makes you sweat almost as fast as in a normal sauna. Moreover, one does not sit in the 竃風呂 but lies on the floor while wearing a yukata. Thus, being wrapped like a potato in an aluminium-foil one sweats even more easily. I was a little bit suspicious about this kind of steam sauna, but I really enjoyed that place. One can really relax inside the small spherical building which hosts the steam sauna. Moreover, sweating is different from the sauna where most of the action is caused by massive heat. As the usage of the 竃風呂 adds only 200 Yen (including the yukata) to the entrance fee I am sure to go there again next time when I visit Therme Ogawa.
